Blessing - Black Hoodie

Product Description

A unique custom of Laos and is traditionally performed during Soukhouan, Boun, important ceremonies such as getting married, giving birth, recovering from sickness, new year, etc. This ritual is performed with a group of people sitting around the Pha Kwan in prayer posture while Buddhist monks or a senior of the community who has been a Buddhist monk recites mantras or chants. It is concluded with the tying of a white cotton or silk thread (white symbolizes purity, peace, harmony, good fortune, good health) around the wrist while being blessed by the person tying it.

It is also a traditional greeting of Laos with this posture and consists of a bow to the head. As a respectful etiquette, Lao children were also taught to greet their elders with this posture. It is called nop.

Khmer/Thai also shares and perform this beautiful unique custom.
